Supply proposal checklist
Because mass timber components are made-to-order, projects should reserve production capacity with a manufacturer well in advance of the required production date. When working with Fort Point Timber, the latest your project should make a production reservation is 24 weeks (about six months) prior to expected delivery.
To begin technical production, we'll need a fully coordinated drawing set and 3D model 20 weeks (about 5 months) prior to delivery date. We use the 3D model to produce the technical production files needed for manufacturing, including element sequencing, CNC control plans, and shop drawings. After a project team submits final drawings, it is common for us to work through 2-3 rounds of revisions with the project team over several weeks prior to production authorization.
Once the technical production files have been finalized, we’ll provide the customer with a production authorization to sign. The production authorization includes final production volumes and specifications based on the technical production files. It also includes final pricing based on the production volumes.
After the customer signs the production authorization, the mass timber components are manufactured. Manufacturing, including all CNC and finishing work, usually requires about two weeks.
Once manufactured, mass timber components are packaged according to installation sequence and placed in watertight shipping containers. Containers are shipped via rail from the factories in Europe to a port in Germany. From there, the containers are loaded onto a cargo ship and delivered to either the Port of Boston or the Port of New York & New Jersey.
Depending on the project, mass timber components are either trucked to the jobsite inside the shipping container or transloaded from the shipping container and delivered to the jobsite on a flatbed trailer. Your installer will then offload the mass timber components, inspect them, and accept the delivery.
